AVLYST - Introduction course to kayaking

Introduction course to kayaking.

Participants are introduced to the kayak and equipment. After completing the course, participants have learned to use the kayak, paddle, spray skirt, and life vest through simple practical exercises. The course aims to motivate further training in paddling.

Skills covered in the course include:

• Lifting, carrying, and launching the kayak
• Paddling forward in a straight line
• Stopping
• Manoeuvring the kayak
• Paddling backward
• Performing a self-rescue by getting out of the kayak in the water
• Landing on shore
• Proper sitting position and good paddling technique
• Introduction to safety measures while paddling
• Familiarity with local paddling conditions

The course lasts for 4 hours, with one break. Participants can adjust the intensity to their preference.

Who is the course suitable for? It’s designed for individuals in normal physical condition, aged 14 and above, who can swim. If you have any health challenges that may impact the course or require special accommodations, please contact the instructor before signing up for the course.

The club provides kayaks, paddles, life vests, and spray skirts. Participants will receive an email from the instructor with more details about the course approximately one week before it starts. 
Note that you have to be a member of Nesodden Kayak Club before signing up for one of our courses. Membership costs only 500 per year and give access to free usage of kayak, paddle, spray skirt, and life vest. You will also get access to many guided trips during the full year.

Registration:

• Registration is binding; see details about cancellation below.
• We reserve the right to cancel the course due to low participation.

Cancellation:

• If a participant cancels more than two weeks before the course starts, a full refund of the course fee is provided.
• Cancellation between two weeks and one week before the course starts incurs a 50% fee.
• Cancellation one week or less before the course starts incurs a 100% fee.
• No refunds are given for illness, quarantine, or similar circumstances beyond the specified deadlines.
• Course spots can be transferred to another participant.

Course Cancellation and Changes:

• Nesodden Kayak Club (NKK) may fully or partially cancel a course, postpone it, or arrange a replacement course if NKK determines that the course cannot be conducted due to factors beyond reasonable control or significant uncertainty (e.g., instructor illness or weather conditions). In case of cancellation, participants will be offered a refund or an alternative course.

Course Certificate:

• After completing the course, participants will receive a certificate (våttkort) with an accompanying sticker as proof of course completion. Additionally, participants can find their course certificate under their user profile on www.vaattkort.no a few days after completing the course.
